LinkedIn is entering their “Agentic era ‘–their words, not ours, in 2025 by introducing a series of AI innovations that intend to automate tedious tasks and help users focus on saving time. But what do these new LinkedIn AI releases mean for you?

The company says its vision is to use AI as a complement, not a replacement, for professional skills and connections. However, critics worry AI could dilute authenticity. Has LinkedIn gone too far?

Let’s analyse the updates LinkedIn has planned for 2025 and what these anticipated features mean for job seekers, employers, and recruiters.

AI-Powered Recruitment Tools

1.- AI-Assisted Search

LinkedIn’s AI-Assisted Search will analyse the meaning and context of job descriptions and hiring manager notes to deliver candidate recommendations. This feature eliminates the need for complex Boolean strings or manual filtering for recruiters, saving time and improving accuracy in talent-sourcing processes.

2.- Rediscovering Top Candidates

When a Talent Manager or recruiter posts a new job, LinkedIn will now automatically surface past applicants or previously sourced candidates who match the role. This feature allows recruiters to start their talent search with a curated list of qualified candidates, speeding up the hiring process.

3.- AI-Assisted Messaging

According to LinkedIn, AI-Assisted Messages have a 44% higher acceptance rate and are accepted over 11% faster by job seekers than non-AI messages. The functionality to send AI-tailored messages is built into LinkedIn, whereas other tools offering similar features usually require a separate licence.

Enhanced Job Seeker Experience

1.- AI Application Assistance

Job seekers can now receive AI-driven suggestions for refining their CVs, cover letters, and job applications. This feature helps applicants tailor their submissions to specific roles, boosting confidence and improving application quality.

2.- Personalised Career Coaching

LinkedIn is introducing AI-powered career guidance, offering personalised advice based on individual goals and industry trends. This feature will help professionals identify the skills they need to advance and provide actionable steps to achieve their career objectives.

3.- Faster Job Matching

Enhancements to the job seeker’s experience will make it easier for candidates to discover roles that align with their skills and preferences. AI will speed-up job application process, enabling job seekers to quickly assess their fit for a position.

Learning and Development Innovations

1.- AI-Powered Learning Recommendations

LinkedIn Learning will provide personalised course suggestions tailored to users’ career aspirations. These recommendations aim to make skill-building more targeted and efficient by analysing individual goals and industry needs.

2.- Interactive AI Coaching

Professionals will have access to AI-driven practice scenarios, such as conducting performance reviews or delivering constructive feedback. This interactive approach helps users develop essential workplace skills in a safe, simulated environment.

Content and Networking Enhancements

1.- AI Summaries

LinkedIn will introduce AI-generated summaries for posts, articles, and videos so users can get a general idea of the content highlights without consuming the full content. A Penn State study recently found that over 75% of Facebook users share links without clicking to read the full content—a behaviour LinkedIn’s AI-generated summaries may unintentionally encourage.

2.- AI-Generated Collaborative Articles

Over 54% of longer English-language posts on LinkedIn are likely AI-generated already, according to research by Originality AI. AI will generate prompts for community articles, encouraging professionals to contribute their expertise and engage in meaningful discussions.

While LinkedIn believes collaborative articles contribute to a more interactive and knowledge-sharing environment, detractors are very vocal about the low quality of these AI-generated articles.

Sales and Networking Upgrades

1.- AI-Assisted Messaging for Sales

Sales professionals can craft personalised outreach messages at scale, improving their business development efforts. LinkedIn believes this feature is particularly valuable for business development teams managing large client portfolios.

2.- Account Insights

AI-generated account summaries can provide sales teams with information about their potential clients, helping them make informed decisions and customise their strategies for their prospects.

What are the Implications of 2025’s LinkedIn AI Updates?

For employers

The new tools will enable hiring managers to attract and connect with top talent more efficiently while also maintaining a strong employer brand. Take the example of the Interested Candidate Alerts, which ensure that organisations remain visible to potential candidates, or the AI-assisted search and messaging features, which can speed up the recruitment process.

For recruiters

The tools introduced in 2024 and 2025 don’t intend to replace the role of recruiters but automate routine tasks, such as candidate sourcing, initial screening, and outreach, so they can dedicate more time to strategic activities, such as assessing candidate fit and building client relationships.

Just like they’d do with any content generated by ChatGPT, recruiters must adapt their LinkedIn’s AI-generated content and messaging to remain authentic if they don’t want to risk undermining their professional brand and underrepresenting their clients’ brand.

For candidates

On the one hand, tools like AI-powered application assistance and career coaching can help candidates present themselves more effectively and identify the right opportunities.

On the other hand, the increased use of AI in content creation means job seekers must work harder to stand out from the crowd. They need to work harder and find creative ways to showcase their skills, experience, and personality to differentiate themselves from other candidates.
