Technical Author- Stoke-on-Trent – Up to £40,000 per annum + Benefits

Our client is a Technology focused company and driving force in the development of enterprise and internet technology. Looking for an experienced Technical Author to join their team based in the Stoke-on-Trent area.
The Infrastructure department are looking for a Technical Author to join this exciting and vital part of the company at their offices in Staffordshire.
Reporting to the IT Assurance Manager, you will focus on the administration of new and existing technical documentation, in line with current Company policies and templates, contained within the IT Document Library used by the IT teams and the rest of the business.

Responsibilities for a Technical Author:
*Performing editorial activities to ensure all technical documents are edited and formatted to agreed standards prior to sending for approval.
*Reviewing documents for duplication within the library for accuracy and validity.
*Supporting production of clear and transparent procedures and processes, which can be understood and followed by engineers within the organisation.
*Providing training, support and guidance to engineers and team members on the creation and submission of documents
*Informing the manager when submitted documents continually fall below the expected standard.
*Carrying out random QA checks on published documents to ensure they comply with the latest departmental standards.
*Ensuring all documents adhere to approved guidelines and standards.
*Maintaining knowledge of departmental systems, policies and processes.
*Communicating with stakeholders to ensure document standards are maintained within teams.
*Ensuring users, owners and approvers review and approve documents in a timely manner through appropriate means.
*Checking progress and quality of own work against agreed performance standards.
*Coordinating planned maintenance work.
*Strategising and making recommendations for documentation improvements, for both processes and related processes.
*Providing 1st line support to SharePoint users.
*Maintaining SmartDocs SharePoint repositories.

Essential Skills and Experience required for a Technical Author:
*Knowledge of Windows & Microsoft Office and Visio.
*A feel for words and a good command of grammar and vocabulary.
*A concern for verbal consistency and an appreciation of tone and style.
*Ability to grasp and structure large amounts of information and anticipate reader’s knowledge gaps.
*Editorial judgement.
*Accurate and methodical approach to work.
*The ability to work to tight schedules.
*Excellent planning and organisational skills.
*Analytical skills.
*Ability to express instructions clearly and briefly in simple English.
*Good documentation skills with the ability to produce visually attractive instructions.
*Good interpersonal and communication skills
*Ability to work successfully as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable Experience and Skills
*Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Technical Writing preferred or equivalent professional experience.
*Technical Authoring experience within a Technical Documentation environment.
*Working within highly regulated environments.
*Proven professional attitude toward work assignments, team members, and end users.
*SharePoint familiarity.
*Experience with SmartDocs or similar document content management system.
