To be successful in this role you must understand how information systems are used at the client. You must be able to work with the end-user and development teams, and be able to apply your technical knowledge to ensure the smooth operation of the company’s information systems. This role requires good SQL Server administration skills.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of computer systems and ensuring users get maximum benefits from them. To achieve this, daily tasks will include:
• installing and configuring computer hardware, operating systems and applications;
• monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks;
• troubleshooting system and network problems and, solving hardware/software faults;
• talking staff through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone;
• providing support, including procedural and technical documentation;
• following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system;
• supporting the roll-out of new applications;
• setting up new users’ accounts and profiles, and dealing with password issues;
• responding within agreed time limits to call-outs;
• working continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate);
• prioritising and managing many open cases at one time using an IT support request system;
• rapidly establishing a good working relationship with customers and other professionals (e.g., software developers);
• testing and evaluating new technology;
• repairing and upgrading different types of computers (software and hardware);
• identifying problems and repairing printers, copiers and scanners;
• keeping track of IT supplies and equipment e.g. cables and adapters;
• performing regular server updates;
• installing cables in the organisation;
• researching and learning about new technology in the market that relate to the organisation’s functions;
• liaising with external support agencies to resolve faults speedily;
• setting up and maintaining backup system for file servers and in-office desktop computers;
• acting as the Situation Manager, to repair and reform unplanned events that adversely affect the network or computing environment.

Technical Skills
The following technical skills are required for this role:
• experience of administering SQL Server is essential for this role;
• In addition you should have experience with most of the following:
o administering Windows desktop and server environments,
o IIS, Exchange, Active Directory and Sage Line 500,
o supporting PCs and peripherals, Servers and Local Area Networks,
• experience of supporting high availability websites will be advantageous.
Qualifications
One of the following qualifications is required:
• HND or Degree in a computer sciences related subject.
• Appropriate professional certification.
