IT Software Developement Manager - Cheshire. Our growing client based in South Manchester, Cheshire is currently looking for a skilled IT Software Development Manager. The Software Development Manager will work with the business in identifying development requirements, delivering new software solutions, supporting the ongoing development of existing systems and the appropriate scheduling of resources against the business priorities. He/she will directly manage a team of software developers and collaborate with the development team to develop software and deliver solutions to the UK business.
The manager will have direct responsibility for management of a small team (approximately 6) of technical development staff. He/She will liaise closely with the IT project management team in Northwich and the UK business managers to prioritise the delivery of existing initiatives and create a resourcing plan to meet the demand for future business initiatives and systems support. He/She will work closely with the Group IT Director in agreeing technology options and strategic direction for IT for the company.
The technologies managed cover embedded C Programming, Informix 4GL, SQL, .Net, C#, Java and a number of legacy technologies. The standard server platform is Windows and some LINUX with a significant legacy Solaris footprint still in place.
The position will report to the Group IT Director and work closely with the UK Managing Director and UK Financial Director.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop and execute an IT Plan which meets the short and long term growth plan of the UK business units, taking specific responsibility for the design and development of Financial and Management Information systems for the Group as a whole.
Evaluate requirements for business process improvements and new areas of automation leading to the implementation of cost effective business solutions within the framework of the company’s strategic plan.
Provide effective management of the UK software development resources that support design and develop systems, ensuring that standards, tools and methods are kept in line with best industry practice.
Ensure that customer expectations are met in the delivery of IT development projects and that any deviations from plan are communicated well in advance in collaboration with the Project Office.
Prepare monitor and control the manpower plans and the annual expenditure budget for IT development for the company. Ensure that staff allocated to the work programme appropriately qualified, managed according to corporate and departmental policy and appropriately measured to ensure the delivery of quality products.
Assist with the planning and management of the overall IT organisation as directed by the Group IT Director.
Provide personal consultancy to the business units in systems, technology and process improvement.
Candidate Specification
Suitable candidates will have:
• Experience managing software development teams
• Experience managing dynamic portfolios of work and balancing resources across competing priorities
• Strong communication and influencing skills
• Strong leadership skills
• An in depth understanding of financial systems and real time transaction processing systems, ideally, but not necessarily, with payments industry experience
• Ability to quickly understand the business processes, associated system solutions and people dynamics in the organisation.
• Experience in forecasting required resources and meeting resourcing requirements through a combination of own resources, Group IT resources, contractors and flexible agreements with third parties
• Experience in structured Business Analysis and instilling a structured approach to process description across both IT and the business units
• Experience of managing, controlling and fostering strong collaboration across remote development units
